Turner Hall in Monroe – the place to be

Turner Hall in Monroe features a restaurant with regularly scheduled Swiss entertainment including polka bands and the Monroe Swiss Singers. Turner Hall also houses a bowling alley. The original Turner Hall was built in 1868, but burned to the ground in 1936. The community came together to build a new Swiss-style Turner Hall that was completed in 1938. Notable visitors include John F. Kennedy, William Jennings Bryant and Lawrence Welk.

Thanks to Deborah Krass Smith we got a tour through the Hall, a nice dinner and a rehearsal by the Swiss Singers, which are contucted by Deborah. What a wonderful experience… Thanks to Hans and Bobby Bernet as well, who organized this afternoon.

  1. Peter and Claudia, thank you so much for visiting and sharing some time with all of us at the Turner Hall of Monroe! We hope you could sense the pride we all have in this longtime Swiss entity, and probably only remaining Turner Hall of Swiss origin, in the United States. –Deb Krauss Smith; Director, Monroe Swiss Singers
